1
Weather-related interruptionsThe cable car to Table Mountain does not operate in bad weather and strong wind! The weather on Table Mountain can change quickly, so it is advisable to check the weather report in advance and plan accordingly. To fully enjoy the view, do not forget your jacket, as it is often windier and colder than at the base of the mountain.

2
Clear view in the morning and eveningThe best chances to experience the Table Mountain free of clouds are in the morning or evening. At this time of year, there is less chance of clouds obscuring the view of the city and the Atlantic Ocean.
3
Book the ticket in advanceAs the Table Mountain is one of the most popular attractions in Cape Town, you should definitely book your ticket in advance! A Fast-Track Ticket especially makes sense in the summer.
4
Ascent guaranteed with combination ticketWith a combined ticket for the Table Mountain Cableway and the Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus Tour in Cape Town, you can reach the Lower Cableway station on Table Mountain quickly and easily and explore the city's main sights at the same time.

5
Stand close to the window of the gondolaA highlight for those without fear of heights! Already on the way up with the cable car, you can clearly see the attractions of Cape Town, including V&A Waterfront, Lion’s Head, and The National Parliament. The closer you stand to the window, the better the view. The gondola rotates 360° during the journey, allowing you to fully admire the panorama.

6
Use the free shuttle busWith the free MyCiTi Shuttlebus, you can reach the Lower Cableway base station comfortably and without changing buses. The stop is located at the foot of Table Mountain in Kloof Nek. The bus operates daily from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM at a 15-20 minute interval. Don't forget to check the last departure time!
7
Culinary variety on Table MountainAfter the cable car ride up Table Mountain, visitors have the quality of choice when it comes to food and drinks. The TEN67 Eatery serves hot meals and snacks, while the wine bar VIEWS by De Grendel Wines offers a wide selection of South African wines. The KLOUD Bar is also a good place to enjoy a drink while taking in the spectacular views of Cape Town. Those who want to fortify themselves after returning to the valley station can enjoy a cold beer from Newlands Brewery in the TAP Bar. This is a particularly good place to watch the sunset over Cape Town's City Bowl district.

An unforgettable 360° experience

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway overcomes a height difference of 700m (2,297ft) in just a few minutes, making it easy to visit the Table Mountain plateau, which is 1,060m (3,478ft) above sea level.

The spectacular cableway

Since 1929, it has been possible to take the cable car to the plateau of Table Mountain; before that, the mountain could only be explored on foot. The current model of the cableway was introduced in 1997 and has a special feature: The cabins rotate 360° during the ascent, offering a breathtaking view of the city, the Atlantic Ocean, and the surrounding landscape. Thus, the journey is a highlight of the Table Mountain National Park. Each gondola can carry 65 people and a cabin attendant. This means that the cableway can transport over 800 people up the mountain per hour. This is an impressive achievement when you consider that the cabins are only suspended from two suspension ropes and that there are no supports of any kind along the 1,200m (3,937ft) route.

360° View

A breathtaking 360° view awaits you, and not just on the ascent and descent. Once arrived at the Upper Cable Station, you can explore the plateau on three routes independently and let your gaze wander over the surrounding landscape. The shortest way is the Dassie Walk, which offers spectacular views to the north, west, and south in just 15 minutes. The name of the path is derived from the most commonly encountered mammals on Table Mountain, the dassies. These guinea pig-sized animals, also known as rock hyraxes, are related to the elephant. The most popular route is the Agama Walk, which offers a 360˚ circuit and thus a view of Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula. The hike takes about 30 minutes. The Klipspringer Walk runs along the edge of the plateau and connects all the viewpoints of the mountain. The hike takes about 45 minutes.

Biodiversity in the National Park

The Table Mountain National Park is a treasure trove for endemic species: The Cape Flora is the smallest of the world's six continental floral kingdoms and yet the most species-rich. It is home to over 9,000 plant species, around 70% of which only occur here. The Fynbos Vegetation, which dominates the Cape Flora, is at its most beautiful in the summer. The mountains of the Western Cape are then covered in a blaze of flowers in all the colors of the rainbow. The small, often delicate plants provide nectar and other food sources for numerous nectar birds and honey-eaters. South Africa's national flower, the King Protea, can also be found here. In the animal kingdom, you will mainly encounter antelopes, monkeys and various species of lizards and snakes.
