Visit the Blue Grotto

The brilliant blue color of the water in the Blue Grotto of Malta comes from cyanobacteria living there. The largest cave of the cave system, accessible only from the sea, can be reached by a boat tour and provides with its crystal clear water for amazement. Visit ruins of ancient temples

There are several excavation sites of prehistoric temples in Malta and Gozo. Visiting them is one of the best undertakings on the island. The Temple of Tarxien was discovered by chance only in 1914 by farmers, the site dates back to the Neolithic period according to archaeological research. Ħaġar Qim includes the ruins of four different temples from the so-called Mġarr phase (ca. 3800-3600 BC) of Malta's early history. Directly nearby is also Mnajdra, an even older cult site. On Gozo you can visit the Ġgantija temples, which have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980, longer than the other megalithic temples in Malta.
