Experience the Palio di Siena (Horse Race)

Twice a year in summer the Palio di Siena, a horse race, takes place in the Piazza del Campo in the city center. Here always ten of the 17 Contrade, the districts of Siena, compete against each other. The spectacle, which has been taking place like this since the Middle Ages, is not without controversy, but definitely an experience. Attentive visitors to Siena can find the symbolism of each contrade on the houses of the old town and thus identify the boundaries of the districts.
